HOLTS SUMMIT, Mo. - The proposed consolidation of Holts Summit and Lake Mykee was approved by a wide margin in Tuesday's municipal election.

"Yes" was the wish of 432 Holts Summit voters, while 152 voted "no" to consolidation. All that was needed to approve the consolidation was a simple majority, and the proposed question received 73.9 percent approval.

Lake Mykee voters also needed to say "Yes" to the question of consolidation for the matter to pass. Ninety-nine voters said "yes," with only 10 voting "no." That means the question received 90.8 percent approval by the voters.

After election results were posted, Holts Summit City Administrator Rick Hess said both communities can now start to move forward.
"(The) next step is to turn the matter over to the attorneys," he said. "Lake Mykee has got to decertify as a village, and once that is done, we can move forward with bringing them into our fold."

Voter turnout

Voters in Holts Summit also beat the average county voter turn out of 12.96 percent, with 25.76 percent of all registered Holts Summit voters making their voices heard at the polls.

Hess said the outstanding participation shows the involvement of the community.

"That is incredible for an April municipal election," he said. "It's just phenomenal. I think it shows that all the things on the ballot were very important to the entire region; and it shows Holts Summit residents realized that and got out and voted."
