Area man gets 7 years for thefts

A Tebbetts man has been sentenced to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to charges regarding several theft-related investigations in southern Callaway County - around Holts Summit, Tebbetts and Mokane.

Joseph Green, 20, was charged in the following cases:

On Jan. 17, the Callaway County prosecuting attorney charged Green with first-degree burglary in connection with a break-in at a Holts Summit business last September.

On Jan. 22, Green was charged with receiving stolen property in connection with a burglary in Tebbetts in December. A charge of second-degree burglary was dismissed.

On Jan. 25, Green was charged with two counts of first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle - the first in relation to a November residential burglary and vehicle theft in the Mokane area, and the second in relation to the theft of a commercial motor vehicle from a Holts Summit business in September.

His sentence in Callaway County is to be served concurrently with any sentence he is now serving, and Green was given credit for any time already served.

Cole County authorities charged Green in January with breaking into a business and stealing a vehicle in November. He was charged with first-degree burglary and first-degree tampering.

In the November incident, deputies responded to the 2900 block of Renns Lake Road in reference to a vehicle stolen from the lot of Braun Auto. It was discovered someone had broken into the business, took the keys for this vehicle and drove it off the lot.

After review of security video, Green was identified as the person who had broken into the business.

The charges are the result of investigation by the Callaway County Sheriff's Office, with the assistance of the Cole County Sheriff's Office.
