Middle school student detained after threat

A female eighth-grade student at Thomas Jefferson Middle School was detained Thursday after making a threat to the safety of students at the school.

According to a release from the Jefferson City Public Schools, administrators were alerted about the student making this threat. School officials and authorities did not say what type of threat the student made.

The Thomas Jefferson principal alerted the school's resource officer, who was able to get information from staff and students, and the female student was taken into custody. She was taken to the Prenger Family Center.

The school was never placed on lockdown.

The student is facing both legal and district disciplinary action.
