Felon arrested after footchase

A fugitive from Columbia wanted in Callaway, Boone and Audrain counties was arrested early Thursday afternoon, according to Lt. Clay Chism of the Callaway County Sheriff's Office.
At 1:06 p.m., Callaway County Sheriff's deputies were patrolling County Road 276 near Stephens in northwest Callaway County near the Boone County line when they encountered Justin Martin, 18, of Columbia. Martin was wanted for several warrants, Chism said.
As deputies approached, Martin fled on foot. With the assistance of the Missouri Highway Patrol, officers converged on the area and began checking area roads, fields and outbuildings. At 1:22 p.m., Callaway County deputies located Martin hiding in a barn, and he was taken into custody  without incident.
Martin was transported to the Callaway County Jail and is being held on the following warrants:
Callaway County FTA warrant - Stealing and Narcotics violations;
Boone County FTA warrant - Traffic violations;
Audrain County FTA warrant - Felony stealing.
In addition to the warrants, Martin was further booked and processed for a felony stealing offense that occurred along County Road 269 in Callaway County earlier in the summer. During that offense, Martin and others stole several batteries from vehicles at a local agriculture business, according to Chism.
Martin is being held on $21,000 bond and remains in the custody of the Callaway County Jail. No further information will be released at this time as further charges and/or arrests may be forthcoming.
