Holts Summit starts work on 2017 budget

HOLTS SUMMIT, Mo. - The budget process got under way Monday during a work session of Holts Summit aldermen, Mayor Landon Oxley and City Administrator Rick Hess.

Agenda items also included a resolution to purchase a new server, an ordinance authorizing the lease of a lien on a local property and a couple of other small matters.

"We did a resolution authorizing support of a transportation alternative program grant application so we can get authorization to apply for a grant," said Alderman Jason Glenn, Ward 1 council member.

He said that is a very preliminary stage of the process, and more details about that project will be forthcoming.

"We started the 2017 budget," Glenn added.

While the budget won't be submitted until mid-January, Glenn said it was a chance to take a big picture look and get acclimated to working with Hess as the city administrator.

"It was a very basic meeting, very broad spectrum, just looking at some of the preliminary numbers and we'll get to the fine-tuning later," Glenn said.

He said that so far, there aren't any major surprises regarding the budget.

"Nothing big as of this point, which is good," Glenn said. "The closer we get, there's always some kind of surprise."
