City Council hears updates on new wastewater treatment facility

The project to revitalize Fulton's wastewater treatment facility is progressing with $1.8 million of the $8.8 million price tag paid out, according to Darrell Dunlap, utilities superintendent.

He reported work on several stages Tuesday evening to Fulton City Council members.

"The floor is poured and the concrete footing, and they're starting to put up the walls," he said of the headworks, the first step of the plant where large debris is removed.

A stormwater holding basin has also been constructed, according to Bill Johnson, city administrator.

"(Stormwater) no longer goes to the creek to drain; it comes right back to the plant," he said.

A clarifier - a round structure, 90 feet across - also has been constructed, and an additional generator acquired. And concrete has been poured for the new disinfection building.

Dunlap said the project is lagging slightly behind and is about 20 percent complete.

City officials also started reading a resolution granting city support for a new West Fourth Street pedestrian and bicycle project. The city will seek funding through the state Department of Transportation grant.
