Women charged in shooting

Charges have been filed against two Iowa women in connection with the shooting of a Jefferson City man Saturday night.

Marcus Green was taken to University Hospital in Columbia after he was shot in the abdomen. No condition report was available Monday.

Prosecutors charged both Karmen Hines, 26, and Daeqwan Smith, 22, with first-degree assault and armed criminal action.

Jefferson City police said the mother of Hines and Smith got into a phone argument with a Jefferson City woman over an outstanding $15 balance from a previous cell phone transaction.

The mother and her daughters went to the woman's apartment in the 800 block of Monroe Street, and Green began arguing with the two younger women.

A short time later, he was shot in the abdomen.

One of the witnesses told police Smith pulled out a handgun from her jacket and shot Green.

Smith and Hines then fled the scene - leaving their mother in the apartment - and later were stopped by the Missouri Highway Patrol in Schuyler County, near the Missouri/Iowa border.

They are each being held in the Cole County Jail on $100,000 bond.
