River City Habitat for Humanity, the ecumenical Christian housing ministry in Jefferson City which started in 1992, has selected Susan Cook as its new executive director.

Cook will fill the vacancy created by Kelly Smith's departure in August. Habitat officials said Cook was selected after a regional search and selection process.

Cook's resume includes more than 20 years of management, administration, communications and marketing experience. She has a master's degree in sociology from Lincoln University and, before that, received her bachelor's degree from Missouri State University in Springfield.

Prior to this appointment, Cook was operations manager for Empower Missouri, a social justice and welfare agency organization.

River City Habitat for Humanity is working on its 100th local home on East High Street with plans underway for local homes No. 101 and 102 already in place.
