Callaway Chamber hosts health fair

Members of the Callaway Chamber of Commerce hosted a health fair Friday as part of its week-long healthy living initiative.

Tamara Fitzpatrick, executive director of the chamber, said the event is in its inaugural year. Chamber officials were assessing how the week went and taking notes for next year's event, she added.

"We have 14 booths here today and had some people come in," Fitzpatrick said. "It's our first year doing this, and we'll continue to build on what we have. If we even only helped one person today, I feel like it was worth it."

Diana Mosier, of Peak Sport and Spine, hosted a booth as part of the event. The opportunity provided by the chamber to market her business is valuable for a small business.

"I think (the chamber) is great at helping out," she said. "Communication and advertising is a big part of making companies successful."

The week-long focus on healthy living aims to inspire people to pay better attention to their own health and make necessary improvements, Mosier said.

"Health is important to a person's everyday life," she said. "It makes them feel better and aware of things they can do to improve. The showcase today has really helped people know what's going on."

After hosting a week of events about physical, mental and financial health, Fitzpatrick said the chamber is shifting focus from wellness week to November plans.

"Our next big thing is our (idea) pitch competition," she said. "Registration is still open until Oct. 29."
