Giesing charged with rape

Bond was set at $250,000 for a man charged Monday with raping a former girlfriend this weekend in Cole County

Prosecutors charged William E. Giesing, 38, of Holts Summit., with first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy and first-degree domestic assault.

A Cole County sheriff's probable cause statement said Giesing had been staying at the victim's home in Russellville. After she returned from an out-of-state trip about 3:30 a.m. Saturday, he used a utensil to unlock her bedroom door, and accusing her of lying about her trip.

The victim told a deputy Giesing then "grabbed her hair and bashed her head into the wall several times," then kicked her when she fell to the floor.

The victim also reported Giesing would assault her, then "take a break and pace around and apologize for what he was doing," the sheriff's statement said.

But any time the victim tried to leave, she said, Giesing would "cut her off and keep her from getting away."

About 6 a.m. Saturday, the victim told investigators, Giesing made her take a bath - and made her take pictures of her own face while he held her hair back.

After the bath, the victim said, she was nearly "unconscious from the pain and everything was 'foggy'" when Giesing forced himself on her.

She fell asleep, and was awakened about 1:30 p.m. when a friend sent her a text message asking if she was OK.

The victim said she told the friend she was being held against her will.

The friend then came to the house, heard the victim crying and asking Giesing to "just let her leave." The friend threatened to call police if Giesing didn't let her into the home.

The sheriff's statement said the friend saw the victim's injuries and took her to the emergency room.

The sheriff was called to the hospital, and Giesing was picked up at the home later.

The statement said Giesing acknowledged attempting to have sex with the victim but "knew he would not have tried to force her to do it."

Giesing also admitted fighting with the victim and "knew she was hurt pretty bad and that the fight had gotten out of hand."

No court dates were set Monday.

First-degree rape and first-degree sodomy are both unclassified felonies which carry a possible prison sentence, if there's a conviction, of at least five years, to life.

First-degree domestic assault is a Class B felony, with a possible prison term of five-15 years.

The victim was described as an adult, but her name and age were not reported in the charges or probable cause statement.
