Moniteau County Historical society plans for 50th anniversary dinner

The 50th anniversary dinner of the Moniteau County Historical Society will be Monday, Nov. 14, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, California. There are more than 100 members.
The society was organized Nov. 27, 1966, with 223 charter members. The society was organized to collect and record information on Moniteau County, the 2,000 plus families, the history of the businesses, churches and events in the county. The county was formed in 1845.
The society's premises is the renovated 1902 post office building. The building, renovated by California Progress, Inc. (CPI), is the location of the Moniteau County Cultural Her­itage Center.
The center houses a museum, meeting room (with kitchen) and a recently expanded genealogy library.
The Historical Society has published major books of family and business history - the first in 1980 and the second in 2000. There are also archival storage of over 2,000 photographs.
On Nov. 2, in appreciation for the work done by the society and its membership, California Mayor Norris Gerhart signed a proclamation declaring "Now, therefore, be it resolved that the City of California acknowledges the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Moniteau County Historical Society and the significant role it has played in the County of Moniteau. Now, therefore, I, Norris Gerhart, Mayor of the City of California, Missouri do hereby pro­claim the month of November, 2016, as a special time to show appreciation for the contributions of the Moniteau County His­torical Society."
