Cattlemen raise scholarship funds with dinner, auction

Tuesday, Nov. 1, was the day of the 2016 Moniteau County Cattlemen's Association Scholarship Dinner and Auction. The event was held at Centennial Hall at the Moniteau County Fairgrounds.
In the last few years, the Moniteau Cattlemen's Association has supported the college-bound agriculture students from the county. In 2012, $500 scholarships were awarded to 21 students. In 2013, 15 $750 scholarships awarded. In 2014, it was 17 $750 scholarships. in 2015, it was 17 $1,000 scholarships. In 2016, the scholarships amounted to $1,000 each to eight students.
About 200 came out for the dinner of steak, potato and salad. Following the dinner, Outgoing President Tom Huhmann introduced incoming President David Gier. The "Outstanding Cattlemen's Award" was presented to Roger Borgmeyer DVM by Gier. The award was in thanks for his many years of support to the Moniteau Cattlemen's Association. Borgmeyer first opened a practice in California in 1979.
The auctioneer for the evening, Grant Petree, was introduced and the cattlemen and guests got down to business raising funds for the 2017 scholarships. A wide range of items were auctioned. Several donations added to the funds raised for the scholarships.
During a short business meeting, board members elected were:Andy Rohrbach, Johnny Elliott and William Inglish. Melissa Hentges is secretary and Shelley Hampton is treasurer.
