Jefferson City man gets 5 years for forgery

A Jefferson City man charged with passing phony money at local businesses was sentenced to five years in prison.

Darrius Lawson, 30, of 1006 W. Main St., was charged with four counts of forgery in August 2015. His sentence will run concurrent to all other sentences against him.

Court documents show Lawson used a counterfeit $50 bill while purchasing an item at Walgreens on Eastland Drive.

Lawson later tried to use fake $50 bills at Sonic on East Elm Street and Convenient Food Mart on Eastland, but was denied anything after employees determined the bills were counterfeit.

He admitted during questioning he knew the bills were counterfeit.
