YMCA gets grant for child literacy work

The Jefferson City Area YMCA's Child Development Center received a $2,500 grant from the Dollar General Literacy Organization to support its literacy programs.
The grant will be used for literacy games and materials in the preschool classrooms and the summer reading program to encourage early literacy at home.
The YMCA Child Development Center is a Missouri licensed facility and meets the standards of the Missouri Board of Accreditation of Early Childhood Education and School Age Child Care Programs. The center educates and nurtures more than 125 newborns to pre-kindergartners Monday through Friday between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.
The Dollar General Literacy Foundation supports initiatives that help others improve their lives through literacy and education. Since its inception in 1993, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation has awarded more than $120 million in grants to nonprofit organizations, helping more than 7.3 million individuals take their first steps toward literacy or continued education.
