2 in custody following chase in Jefferson City

A man and woman from Jefferson City are facing several charges after a chase with police Tuesday afternoon in the Capital City.

According to Jefferson City Police Department reports, Christopher Franklin, 42, and Rachel Burks, 41, are facing charges that include endangering the public, careless and imprudent driving, failure to yield to a law officer and resisting arrest.

The chase began just after 3 p.m. in the area of East Elm Street and Eastland Drive.

An officer spotted Franklin as he was driving in the area and knew that Franklin had a felony warrant out for his arrest.

When the officer tried to pull Franklin over, Franklin failed to yield and drove off and the pursuit began.

The chase went north to McCarty Street and then west to the intersection of Lafayette and West McCarty.

Franklin went onto Lafayette and then onto Miller Street. He continued east on Miller until he reached the intersection of Clark Avenue where he failed to stop at a stop sign and crashed into a vehicle going through the intersection.

All three of those in the vehicle Franklin crashed into had no reported injuries.

Franklin and Burks were taken into custody at the scene of the crash. It was later discovered that Burks also had a felony arrest warrant out on her.
