Man injured in US 54 motorcycle accident Thursday

A Jefferson City man was listed in critical condition Friday after being seriously injured Thursday night when he was ejected from the motorcycle he was driving as it ran off the road.

Police closed down westbound lanes of U.S. 54 near the Missouri 179 overpass for almost two hours after responding to the crash scene around 9:15 p.m.

Police report Steven Delacruz, 29, lost control of the motorcycle while traveling on the entrance ramp to westbound U.S. 54. He landed in the westbound lanes after being thrown off the bike, which went down on its side in the ditch between the ramp and highway before sliding across the highway into the grass median.

Delacruz was taken by ambulance to St. Mary's Hospital, then transferred via Staff for Life helicopter to University Hospital in Columbia. He was wearing a helmet during the wreck, police report.
