COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Bradford Research Center will focus on weeds during its Pest Management Field Day today.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. There is a $10 cost to attend the event. Lunch will be provided at noon.

"It's going to be a pretty diverse assortment of weed management topics," said Kevin Bradley, an associate professor with the Division of Plant Sciences. "Weeds are the most common pests that we deal with in agricultural production systems, and this event provides a lot of research-based results and recommendations."

The Bradford Research Center will also have nearly 100 field research trials with more than 1,000 different weed-management program treatments to view. The trials have signs so attendees can easily navigate through the research and see the results for themselves.

There will be two different tours offered during the field day. Each tour will focus on the research University of Missouri scientists and students are doing on weeds. Cover crops, organic weed control and seed treatments on soybeans will be discussed.

"Cover crops are getting a lot of attention right now, and we'll talk about the research we're doing on them," Bradley said. "There are also new soybean traits that are coming to market. They're not new herbicides, but they're being used in a new way.

"We're trying to do everything we can to get people ready for these new technologies."

Many of the presentations will be done by graduate students. Bradley, senior research specialist Mandy Bish and professor of weed science Reid Smeda will also present.

The Bradford Research Center is located at 4968 Rangeline Road in Columbia. For more information about the Field Day, call 573-884-7945.
