Local man gets 7 years for thefts from vehicles

A Jefferson City man was sentenced to seven years in prison for pleading guilty to charges in connection with the stealing of items from vehicles in July 2015.

Matthew Baim, 31, of 500 Hutton Lane, was charged with two counts of felony stealing and tampering with physical evidence.

Jefferson City Police Department received multiple theft reports from motor vehicles in the 600 block of Woodlander Road.

Baim was driving a vehicle when stopped by police and was found to be in possession of a wallet belonging to one of the theft victims.

Baim enter unlocked vehicles parked in the area, took items out and placed them in the vehicle.

Identification cards and credit cards belonging to some of the theft victims were also found in the vehicle.

Baim has multiple prior convictions for theft-related crimes.
