Jefferson City woman hurt in accident

A Jefferson City woman suffered minor injuries early Friday morning after she swerved to avoid a deer and hit a tree.

Around 4:25 a.m., Rachel Burks, 41, was heading southbound on Highway 179, near the south of Hilsenbeck Road when she swerved and the vehicle travelled off the left side of the road a struck a tree, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.

Burks was transported to St. Mary's Hospital in Jefferson City.
