Missouri American Water and Cole County maintenance crews worked into Wednesday night to repair a service line break at the Cole County Courthouse in downtown Jefferson City.
Courthouse officials said the break was reported around 4 p.m., so business at the courthouse was able to conclude as usual at 4:30 p.m.
The break was located inside the courthouse. Only the courthouse and the old jail were affected, not the courthouse annex.
Although officials didn't know the exact cause of the break, extreme weather conditions such as high temperatures can add stress to pipes and cause breaks.
