Jefferson City's Food Code requires food-service establishments be inspected at least once every six months.
The inspections note critical and non-critical violations. Critical violations are the more serious, as they are more likely to compromise food safety and cause health problems. Critical violations often concern improper food temperatures, either on a stove/grill or in holding areas after cooking or before cooking, such as in a refrigerator. They also could involve plumbing repairs, personal hygiene, people who are sick handling food or contamination, such as pest infestations.
Non-critical violations are more minor offenses, which could deal with cleaning/maintenance of floors, walls, ceilings, open waste receptacles, unshielded light bulbs in a food preparation area or a missing thermometer in a refrigerator.
The Food Code typically requires establishments to correct critical violations at the time of inspection when possible, or within a longer time frame not to exceed 10 days agreed upon with the regulatory authority. Establishments are required to correct non-critical violations by a date agreed to with the regulatory authority not to exceed 90 days from the time of inspection.

Thomas Jefferson Middle School, 1201 Fairgrounds Road, one non-critical violation: tray on top of ice machine not clean (corrected on site).
Applebee's Neighborhood Grill, 2319 Missouri Blvd., four non-critical violations: water handle on soda machine had black debris present; lemon wedger had dried food debris present; floor drain had debris inside; wall covering coming loose from wall.
Sonic Drive-in, 1711 E. Elm. St., three non-critical violations: back hand sink cold water turned off due to leak; wall trim coming loose around window at ice cream fountain and triple sink and at back door, and walk-in freezer door sill jam coming loose; detail cleaning necessary on walk-in cooler roll-away racks, fryer station bank, dump station and hoods.
Wendy's Old Fashioned Hamburgers, 2108 Missouri Blvd., one critical violation: large amount of flies and other flying insects in restaurant, especially in food prep area - and one non-critical violation: air curtain in drive-thru window not working properly.

Hibachi Grill & Supreme Buffet, 730 W. Stadium Blvd., four non-critical violations: chest freezer lid in disrepair (insulation exposed); door closure not present on unisex employee bathroom door; foil covering fire suppression lines coming loose; wall board and tile in mop sink area need repaired.
