According to police reports, an anonymous caller phoned Fulton Middle School on Monday morning to advise staff there would be someone coming to school to see his children. The man, the caller said, would be armed with a gun.

Courtney Cornelius Reid, 37, of Jefferson City was identified as a suspect by the Fulton Police Department and the Fulton School District.

A press release from the Fulton Police Department stated Reid was involved in an ongoing domestic violence investigation with the mother of his two children, who lives in Fulton. Over the last few weeks, he made various physical threats toward the woman, police said.

In response to his threats, the mother of his children got a restraining order to prevent him from contacting her or the children. Reid ignored the order, and continued to threaten her through text messages and social media, police said.

Through a joint investigation between Fulton and Jefferson City police officers, he was arrested at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday in Jefferson City on six counts of violating an order of protection and one count of domestic assault.

Major Roger Rice of the Fulton Police Department said he is grateful the collaborative investigation went so smoothly.

"We have a very good working relationship with most departments in the area," he said. "They did an excellent job and went above and beyond to locate this guy. We can't say enough good things about them."

The threat to a school, Rice said, added an urgency to the investigation.

"Thank God we don't have to do these often," he said. "Whenever you threaten a building full of kids, you better expect some consequences."

Reid is currently being held at the Callaway County Jail, without bond, Rice said.

"Due to the seriousness of the case, the judge opted to put it in as no bond," he added. "He'll be formally charged this afternoon, and they'll set a date for his preliminary court date."

According to MissouriCase.net, Reid was arrested and pleaded guilty to stealing, domestic assault and distributing marijuana between 1999 and 2003.
