Weekend shooting victim identified

'Suspicious' death now ruled homicide

Jefferson City police have identified the man who was shot and killed over the weekend, and they're asking for the public's help in finding the killer.

William "Bill" Crawford, 50, was killed at his residence in the 1900 block of Stadium Boulevard between 8:53 p.m. Friday and 6:30 a.m. Saturday. He was last seen on video leaving Schulte's Fresh Foods Friday evening.

Police have worked with CrimeStoppers to offer a $1,000 cash reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for Crawford's death. Call 659-TIPS or report online at jeffcitycrimestoppers.com. Residents also can contact Detective J. Kempker at the Jefferson City Police Department at 634-6400.

JCPD asks the public to also call if they saw Crawford prior to or during the times in question.

The suspect or suspects should be considered armed and dangerous, police said.

Investigators examined the crime scene and found what were believed to be a number of possible causes or circumstances surrounding the death of the victim, and initially it was ruled as a suspicious death.

Once detectives were able to process the scene and gather some statements, it was determined the death was in fact a homicide.
