Flint effort's leftover water may be bound for Louisiana

Transportation help eyed for 13 pallets of water

They did it before and now they're trying to do it again.

Earlier this year, students at Lincoln University and other Jefferson City residents joined together to donate water and other essential items to Flint, Michigan, during their water crisis.

It's been six months since the Missouri to Michigan effort sent 20 pallets of water, and the effort's organizers said they still have 13 pallets of water left in storage.

As a result, they need to move the water no later Aug. 26.

Missouri to Michigan leader Tyrone Coleman said after current situations around the country and further plans to assist Flint in other ways, he's reached out to military officials and community personnel in Louisiana beset by drastic flooding.

About 3,000 people are residing in Celtic Studios, a converted shelter in Baton Rouge, and officials there said they would greatly appreciate the donation of water, Coleman said.

"In the Louisiana Flood-Lost and Found group on Facebook, you will see a post from myself where people are trying to find a way to get the water in addition to a visual of what the families are experiencing," Coleman said.

Louisiana's military assets are unable to assist, Coleman said, so local help is needed.

"What we need is a charitable donor to transport the 13 pallets of water we have as close as possible to the site as a response from Missouri to Louisiana in their moment of crisis," he said.

He asked for anyone with resources or ideas that may aid in mission success to call him.

"Like previously, we would also like to send a team to travel with the delivery for further assistance, research and documenting purposes," Coleman said. "That proposed team would consist of Long Live Entertainment, a student from Lincoln University, a community volunteer and myself."
