Sales tax holiday returns for weekend

It's the first weekend in August, so the "back-to-school" state sales tax holiday is back.
From just after midnight tonight (12:01 a.m. Friday) through midnight Sunday, the state's 4.225 percent sales tax won't be collected on sales of items that qualify as back-to-school purchases - such as clothing, school supplies, computers and other items as defined by state law.
In some counties and communities, local sales taxes also are exempt.
But in Mid-Missouri, local county sales taxes still will be imposed in Cole, Callaway, Boone, Moniteau, Morgan, Osage, Audrain and Howard counties.
And local city sales taxes still will be charged in Jefferson City, Centertown, Taos, Holts Summit, Ashland, Columbia, California, Eldon, Chamois, Meta, St. Elizabeth, Owensville, Bland, Osage Beach, Camdenton, Laurie, Sedalia, Boonville and Kingdom City.
The Revenue Department's site, dor.mo.gov, reports the sales tax exemption is limited to:
Clothing any article having a taxable value of $100 or less.
School supplies not to exceed $50 per purchase.
Computer software taxable value of $350 or less.
Personal computers not to exceed $1,500.
Computer peripheral devices not to exceed $1,500.
Graphing calculators - not to exceed $150.
