St. Mary's earns dual Healthgrades awards

St. Mary's Hospital in Jefferson City is the only hospital in the state to receive two patient-focused awards from Healthgrades. This is the second consecutive year the hospital has received the Patient Safety Excellence Award and the Healthgrades Outstanding Patient Experience Award.

Beck Miller, vice president of patient safety and quality for SSM Mid-Missouri region said they are is thrilled to receive the recognition.

"We are dedicated to both patient safety and to continuously improving the patient experience, and we encourage consumers to use Healthgrades and other resources to evaluate their options before making important health care decisions," Miller said.

St. Mary's was among the top 10 percent of hospitals across the nation that received the Patient Safety Excellence Award, indicating after an Healthgrades evaluation, their performance in safeguarding patients from serious, potentially preventable complications during their hospital stays is considered to be elite.

When it comes to the Outstanding Patient Experience Award, St. Mary's is among the top 15 percent of hospitals nationwide based on patient experience measures and a survey that focused on patients' perspectives of their care during their inpatient stay.

The rankings were compiled based on data entries between April 2015-March 2016.

St. Mary's Hospital also recently earned the CNOR Strong designation from the Competency & Credentialing Institute (CCI). The CNOR Strong designation is given to facilities having at least 50 percent of its OR nursing staff CNOR certified, and provides programs that reward and recognize its certified nurses. St. Mary's Hospital has 77 percent of its total eligible operating room staff certified.
