2019 Backyard Concert Series begins

The 2019 Backyard Concert Series at Jefferson Landing Historic Site starts its fourth annual summer-long festivities Saturday with "Hammers, Iron, Rock 'N Roll."

The Missouri State Museum invites the Missouri Folk Arts' Traditional Arts Apprenticeship program, which will host a hammer-in from 1-4 p.m. on the Lohman Building lawn. Blacksmiths and their apprentices will demonstrate and show their work.

Guests can grab a picnic supper and come back for an evening of music by the rock band ensemble of the 399th Army Band 7-8 p.m. from Fort Leonard Wood.

The Union Hotel's Rozier Gallery at Jefferson Landing, 101 Jefferson St., will be open late for concert-goers to view the "Join, Save, Buy!" WWI posters exhibit. Visitors are also encouraged to bring canned goods for donation to the HALO Foundation.

At 7 p.m. July 20, master fiddler John Williams and master guitarist Kenny Applebee will play traditional fiddle and dance music. Vintage country band Pigweed will perform at 7 p.m. Aug. 24 for the final Backyard Concert Series installment at Jefferson Landing.

Guests are encouraged to bring their own chairs, blankets and food to the event. The event is free and open to the public.
