On Display: Finding inspiration through outdoor America

Vic Mastis finds inspiration in the beautiful landscapes, florals and destinations throughout America.

From the serenity of a hidden trail with dappled rays of golden sunshine to the sparkle of the tropical palms, her work transports the viewer to luminous places. The result? Ethereal creations that excite the senses and give the viewer a "total effect painting." Her new series, Where Realism Collides with Abstract, will further elaborate on this exploration of light.

As a workshop and class teacher, Mastis has delighted in helping students take on their first painting with either oils or pastels and helping them advance their skills.

She founded the Gateway Pastel Society in St. Louis in 1998 after attending the International Association of Pastel Societies in Kansas City, Missouri, and is a member of numerous organizations.

Mastis' work has also been seen in the Edward Hopper House in Nyack, New York, as well as in Florida's Fort Walton Museum. Her work also can be found in various private collections, including Anheuser-Busch, The Cancer Center at St. John's Hospital, Dr. Hartmann's office and Instrument Music Store.

She lives and paints in her studio in St. Louis and is represented at Green Door Art Gallery, in historic Webster Groves, Missouri, and the Art House in Fulton. Her painting,"Good News Coming," was just juried into the Missouri Valley Impressionist Society's exhibit at the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art in St. Joseph, Missouri. The reception will be held 4-7 p.m. Sept. 13. The exhibit will run Sept. 13 through Nov. 3.
