Country music icon Tracy Lawrence is ready to storm the CalMo Country Fest stage "like a Texas tornado" to help raise money for all-terrain wheelchairs.
The inaugural CalMo Country Fest begins at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Moniteau County Fairgrounds. The event is organized, produced and promoted by local resident Travis Bax, founder of the Giving a Better Life foundation. Bax created the concert to raise money for people in wheelchairs to better enjoy the outdoors.
Missouri acts Murphy's Ford, Halle Kearns and California's own southern rockers, Bourbon Creek, will grace the stage before Lawrence takes over for the feature performance.
"I'm excited about it," Lawrence said. "Being a person who loves the outdoors and knowing we can help provide people who have disabilities the opportunity to go out and enjoy outside and see all the great things that God has provided us through nature it's a wonderful thing to be a part of."
Lawrence said the country festival is part of what has been a great year. He's enjoyed collaborating with country music peers on his new project, "Good Ole Days."
"We've already been in the studio working on some new stuff, as well as writing a ton and hope to get in the studio to finish up a brand new album later this year," Lawrence said.
While Lawrence has been working on new material in the studio, he said fans at the Moniteau County Fairgrounds can expect to hear all of his big hits from a collection of No. 1 Billboard singles, such as "Sticks and Stones," "Texas Tornado" and "Paint Me A Birmingham." To all the California area country music fans out there, Lawrence hopes to see you at the show.
"Don't think about it, come on!" he said.
