Helping women help women

Dreams to Reality Boutique is banding together with local businesses 6-8 p.m. Tuesday for the Dream Believer Fundraiser at Scene One Theatre.

Dreams to Reality is a not-for-profit United Way agency that helps local woman obtain interview and work appropriate attire.

"We are an organization that is set up to help women in transition, meaning they're entering the workforce or they've had a life transition from a separation or maybe a fire that they've gone through and we outfit them with clothing to get them started in their new life," Dreams to Reality President Gara Loskill said.

Established in 2000, Dreams to Reality started by providing women with interview outfits donated by residents and is now working to provide them with clothing necessities and a week's worth of clothing suitable for many work environments. Although the boutique held a Dream Believer Fundraiser last year, this is the first year they will be working with local businesses to host the fundraiser as an event.

The headliner of the event is "Relative Strangers" with Scene One Theatre where the fundraiser will be taking place. The one act play with an all-female cast depicts the kind of support women need from other women in their lives. Melle Richardson will play a quirky flight attendant who nudges along a developing bond between two passengers, played by Katherine Moore and Tracy Wegman, the latter who is also one of the owners of Scene One Theatre.

Eat.Crepe.Love. and St. James Winery will also be working with the boutique to provide food and beverages during a silent jewelry auction before the show. Eat.Crepe.Love. will make a variety of their sweet crepes on site for guests including their southern caramel cheesecake crepe and their strawberry Nutella creme crepe. To pair with the crepes, St. James Winery will offer glasses of their summer series wine including their Summer Berry seasonal wine that uses a blend of tart berry and stone fruits that is only available for a limited time.

Due to the generosity of sponsors for the event, 100 percent of the money gathered from tickets sold will go toward helping provide women with clothing that is not donated such as undergarments and scrubs.

"Every woman at some point in their life reaches out to other women for support and that's what our agency does," Loskill said. "We clothe them, we help them feel like they are supported and we'd like to be able to say when they leave here they feel like a whole new person because they look like a whole new person."

Tickets to the event are limited and can be purchased at www.dreamstoreality-jc.org/dream-believer-fundraiser. For more information about Dreams to Reality, visit dreamstoreality-jc.org.
