The Jefferson City Community Symphonic Band rehearses at Thomas Jefferson Middle School in advance of the Big Band No Strings Attached Concert Sunday, March 18, 2018.

The Jefferson City Community Symphonic Band will be performing their spring concert, "Big Band, No Strings Attached," on Sunday at Calvary Lutheran High School.

This will be their first concert within the calendar year and third concert within their season. The performance will feature big band standards and toe-tapping music with a variety of hits from Duke Ellington and the Great American Songbook. The concert will also feature Steve Redmon as a lead vocalist and will have several solo performances by members of the band.

The Jefferson City Community Symphonic Band was founded in 2010 and consists of local musicians who love to perform in concert settings. Members range from middle school age students to retired residents who play in their spare time.

"We've tried to make our focus on not only educating our performers to becoming better musicians, but we also want to help educate our audience on all the different types of music out there," said Amanda Allen, director of the Jefferson City Community Symphonic Band.

The concert will begin at 2 p.m. and will have an intermission for a chance to interact with band members. Admission to the concert is free. For more information about the Jefferson City Community Symphonic Band, visit facebook.com/jccommunitysymphonicband.
