First Angiepalooza winter luau fundraising event set for Sunday

Life's a beach, even in winter.

At least it will be for one night at the Angiepalooza Winter Luau on Sunday at The Millbottom, 400 W. Main St.

Although this luau is taking place during winter, organizer Tim Tinnin is certain it will be nothing short of a good time.

"It's February and it's cold, and I thought, 'You know what? Let's just go completely opposite of that, and let's do a luau.' Who does a luau in February? Angiepalooza does," Tinnin said.

Angiepalooza was first held in 2013 in remembrance of Angie Capps-Tinnin. They loved charity, Tinnin explained. He and Angie often hosted benefit barbecues to help local children or families in need. When Angie passed away, Tinnin not only wanted to celebrate her life but also wanted to recognize those still battling cancer.

Money from the past seven years of Angiepalooza benefit concerts has provided iPads used in treatment centers while patients undergo chemotherapy. It's simple, but it gives patients a little comfort to read a book, search online or do a little shopping while trying to get better, Tinnin said.

Tinnin also encourages anyone currently battling cancer to attend the Angiepalooza Luau free of charge.

This will be the first Angiepalooza Winter Luau. The benefit will start with a happy hour from 4-6 p.m., followed by live music from Blues Deville from 6-8 p.m. and 5 Turn Knot from 8:30-10:30 pm. There will be smoked barbecue from JQ's on High with tiki drinks and other beverage favorites, provided by Shrunken Head Lounge.

The benefit will be indoors, so tickets are limited. VIP tickets have already sold out, but general admission can be purchased for $5 at square.com/store/timothy-tinnin. All proceeds stay local to provide assistance to cancer patients and survivors.
