Bluegrass Martins’ ‘Home for the Holidays’ bring show to Capital City

Sho-Me Music Entertainment will present the Bluegrass Martins’ “Home for the Holidays” as the last concert of its 2017 Sho-Me Music Up Close series Saturday.

“We want everyone to bring their families,” said Janice Martin, banjo player and Sho-Me Music Entertainment promoter. “We believe that togetherness and love make a better world. This is less about presents and gifts and more about being together.”

As part of the concert series finale, the Bluegrass Martins will perform songs from their 2009 Christmas album titled “The Martins — Christmas,” as well as a featured song from their new album, “Travel Down This Road with Me,” featuring Leona and Ron Williams.

The Bluegrass Martins have hosted a holiday show for the past two years at the Royal Theatre in their hometown of Versailles, but this year, they decided to bring bluegrass holiday cheer to the Capital City.

The audience will hear songs like “Christmas Candle,” “Joy to the World,” “Christmas Tree Union” and “Thistlehair the Christmas Bear” from the Bluegrass Martins’ Christmas album and “Looking for a Place to Shine” from their newest album.

To really spread holiday cheer, Martin said, $5 from the proceeds of each ticket will benefit an as yet undetermined organization or a family in need in Jefferson City.

“This is all about coming together on common ground,” Martin said. “Leave all your troubles and stress at the door and just enjoy your evening, enjoy the music.”

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Avenue HQ, 621 E. Capitol Ave. The show starts at 7 p.m.

Refreshments include a mixture of holiday-themed cookies provided by the Martins, plus hot chocolate and adult beverages provided by Gumbo Bottoms.

Tickets cost $20 in advance and $25 at the door. To purchase tickets, visit avenuehq.space/events or call 573-635-9199.
