Can't wait to start gardening this season or need the perfect Mother's Day gift? Get a head start at the 20th annual Central Missouri Master Gardeners plant sale scheduled 7 a.m.-noon Saturday at the Jefferson City Jaycees Fairgrounds.

The plant sale is free and open to the public.

The indoor sale will feature a variety of annuals, perennials, vegetables, peppers and herbs, as well as 300 hanging baskets, 50 pre-planted patio containers and more than 25 varieties of tomato plants. Most plants are grown at the CMMG greenhouses in North Jefferson City, but the majority of the perennials (including natives, trees and shrubs) come straight from members' gardens.

Master Gardeners will be on site to offer planting advice and suggestions based on both personal experience and research-based training.

Discount coupons for participating area businesses will be available on the way out of the sale.

Proceeds from the sale fund the CMMG scholarship program and local community garden projects.
