Scene One Theatre presents "Evil Dead: The Musical"

As Halloween approaches, Scene One Theatre in Jefferson City is preparing to give patrons a round of thrills, chills and giggles in its production of "The Evil Dead: The musical."

"The Evil Dead" is a musical stage play based on the 1980s movie written and directed by Sam Raimi. The production is about a group of college students who travel to a cabin in the woods for spring break and accidentally unleash evil spirits that are accompanied by zombies.

Director Mark Wegman describes the show as a musical comedy.

"Its perfect for Halloween," Wegman said. "I hope people laugh a lot and have a good time."

The production will run from 7:30 p.m. Oct. 19-22 and Oct. 26-29. On Oct. 27, the show will start at 9:30 p.m., after Thursday Night Live.

Some audience members will have the opportunity to be a part of the show by signing up to sit in the splatter zone, where fake blood will be sprayed during appropriate zombie scenes.

"Anybody who has seen the movies in the past will really appreciate the effects we have put into the show," said Patrick Pollock, assistant director.

There 19-person cast includes Jerico Whitaker, Amy Pringer, Jessi Green, Chris Kennison, Joe Schneider,Lisa Hellman, Allen Posz, Stephen Zenishek, Gina Connor, Matt Connor, Dan Zaiger, Gage McAllister, Terry Schoonover, Jeff Lockwood, John Hardin, Tracy Wegman, Jim Rhodes, Jamie Waier, and Rich Burdge.

"The cast has done an incredible job learning this show," Pollock said. "I am proud of everyone who has been involved and has showed their passion."
