One of the more popular contemporary Christian bands is coming to Jefferson City.

Sidewalk Prophets was formed in 2003 by lead singer Dave Frey and rhythm guitarist Ben McDonald when the two were attending Indiana's Anderson University. A demo they recorded was taken without their knowledge to a campus recording contest, which earned them a performance slot. That, in turn, led to radio program directors hearing their work and eventually signing with record labels.

The group won the 2010 GMA Dove Award for New Artist of the Year and were nominated for group of the year in 2011 and song of the year for "Live Like That" in 2013.

The group is currently on its Prodigal Tour featuring the work off the band's "Something Different" album.

The group believes intimacy and nearness of God is written into every song on this album. One of the groups's favorites is "To Live Is Christ" which is based on a verse in scripture, Philippians 1:21, "For me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain."

The group's Jefferson City performance is set for Sunday at the Miller Performing Arts Center. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the concert starts at 6 p.m.

Tickets start at $15 for balcony reserved and $20 for floor reserved.

There is also an Ultimate VIP experience for $100 which includes a devotional with Sidewalk Prophets at 4:30 p.m. and a question and answer session at 5 p.m. A VIP ticket for $30 includes the question and answer session.
