Annual Christmas Bazaar to offer more than food

Cookies are prepared for the annual St. Joseph Cathedral Bazaar on Sunday, Nov. 13, in the church undercroft. This year's cookie bake boasted the most sugar cookies ever, doubling last year's amount. In all, volunteers baked and decorated 200 dozen Christmas-themed cookies that will sell for $5 per dozen. The larger cookies are packaged by one-half dozen a package so that customers can mix or match them.

You'll find good food and homemade goods at the 56th annual Cathedral of St. Joseph Christmas Bazaar and Turkey Dinner in Jefferson City.

The event at the church, which is across from Memorial Park on West High Street, takes place noon-6 p.m. Sunday.

Along with the typical Thanksgiving meal of turkey and all the trimmings you'll also find a country store and quilt raffle, a silent auction and a "Trinkets and Treasurers" booth.

The students at St. Joseph School have decorated Christmas trees, and those who come to the bazaar can vote which grade has the best tree.

The Trolley Company will be available to bring people over to the church if they have to park at Memorial Park.

This is the only fundraiser the church does during the year. The money goes for various church needs. In the past, the funds have helped pay to replace windows and air-conditioning units.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. Carry-outs are available.

"Members of our church make all the items for sale," said Mark Wegman, who along with his wife Tracy, have served as chairs for the bazaar the last four years.

"There's several days of work before we do the event and the many volunteers we have make this run smoothly," he said. "We had 100 dozens cookies last year and this year it's 200 dozen."
