Dancers' Alley, a Jefferson-City based dance company, will host its spring recital May 28 - themed after the "Mary Poppins" song "Step in Time."

Dads and their daughters will dance together to the song, sung by Dick Van Dyke in the classic film, and the performance has become a highlight of the recital. Fathers have rehearsed weekly in preparation.

"It's become a favorite," said Katy Howland, owner and director of Dancers' Alley.

There will be three performances on Friday: 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Younger dancers, ages 3-preteen, will perform at the 1 and 3 p.m. matinees along with the competition team. The final show will showcase all the middle school and high school dancers, four of whom are graduating seniors.

Emily Berendzen, Kalley Schollmeyer, Katie Ford and Desiree Miller have danced with the company since they were young children, Howland said. She added the girls are a "strong group of senior dancers," and they will each dance their senior solo performances that evening.

Audiences can expect a variety of dance at the recital, including tap, jazz, contemporary, classical ballet and hip-hop.

"The recital is a culmination of a year's worth of hard work," Howland said.

The "Step in Time" spring recital will be at the Miller Performing Arts Center.
