The past, present and future of the Jefferson Landing State Historic Site will be celebrated Saturday as it marks the 40th anniversary of state ownership.

The more than 150-year-old buildings were once the heart of the Capital City with merchant stores, taverns and hotels.

The location was the transfer point for both the riverboat and railroad travelers and merchandise shipping.

Music, games and demonstrations will highlight the site and the state's history.

The Lohman Building and Union Hotel will be open 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and Saturday will be the last day to view "Society's Memories: Missouri Courthouses" in the Rozier Gallery.

An afternoon event will be held on the lawn of the Lohman Building, beginning with a welcome at 1:30 p.m.

The refurbished Jefferson Landing sign will be unveiled and available for viewing before it is installed.

Award-winning fiddler Howard Marshall will perform at 2 p.m. with fiddler John Williams, guitarist Russ Ravert and acoustic bassist John Turner. The hour of music will include waltzes, swing, reels and other made-in-Missouri tunes.

Activities from 3-6 p.m. will include historic games, candle and rope making, and blacksmith demonstrations.

At 6 p.m., a birthday cake will be cut along with a family picnic. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets.

Jefferson Landing's first-time "Backyard Concert Series" 6:30-8 p.m. will feature Rose Ridge.
