ASHLAND, Mo. -- The Cattlemen Days Rodeo is back in town Friday and Saturday, with events suited for the whole family.

Some of the main events are bareback, saddle bronc and bull riding; team and calf roping; steer wrestling and barrel racing, said Rodeo Committee Chairman Bruce Glascock.

Competitors from all over the Midwest travel to Mid-Missouri for the two-day event - this year being the 40th anniversary, he said. The event is sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and sponsored by the Cedar Valley Riders and Ashland Optimists. The shows begin at 8 p.m. and typically go for about two hours, followed by the Str8Arrow band.

The Saturday parade starts at 2 p.m. and includes a 6 p.m. "Kiddy Roundup" with stick horse barrel races and roping.

Glascock said the concessions are also a hit, and there's a beer garden for the adults.

"It's good family entertainment," Glascock said. "Have a meal and enjoy the show."

Tickets are $13 at the gate, $11 in advance and $5 for children ages 6-11. Children 5 and younger are admitted free.

Tickets are available in Jefferson City at Schulte's IGA and also at a number of businesses in Ashland and Columbia.
