For nearly 18 years, Marilue Hemmel has been serving the citizens of Cole County in her work with the Circuit Court. Throughout her career in county service, beginning in 1995, she has held a variety of jobs and has taken on progressively greater responsibility.
After nine years in the Circuit Clerk’s office, including three years as Chief Deputy Clerk, Marilue was named in 2004 as the Court Administrator for the Cole County Circuit Court. On May 2 of this year, Gov. Jay Nixon appointed her to fill Cole County’s vacant Circuit Clerk position. She accepted the appointment “with the commitment of serving the citizens of Cole County to the best of my ability.”

A top goal for Marilue is to restore citizens’ trust in the integrity and efficiency of the office. “With my years of experience in working in the court, I am ready to begin making positive steps in restoring the integrity of the office and providing administrative duties to the judges,” she said. “I will be dedicated in demanding transparency and accountability.”

Marilue Hemmel places professionalism over politics and is working to provide outstanding government services in the Circuit Clerk’s office. She seeks to deliver new and enhanced services because the citizens of Cole County deserve the best and “it’s the right thing to do.” Among the innovative programs she has implemented to improve service and increase revenue for Cole County are:
• Cole County Courts website (for paying court costs online)
• Video conferencing (saves taxpayers money)
• Credit/Debit card payment system (increases revenue through more reliable payment system)
• Improved plan to collect court debt
• Enhanced wireless internet (Wi-Fi) in courtrooms for court officials

Marilue Hemmel has served as regional officer for the Missouri Professional Association for Court Clerks and is a member of several other organizations for court professionals. Among them are:
• Missouri Circuit Clerk Association
• Missouri Professional Association for Court Clerks (Regional Officer)
• Missouri Association for Court Administration
• National Association of Drug Court Professionals
• Missouri Jury Organization (Supports juror education and improvements to the jury process)
• Cole County Democratic Central Committee
• Jefferson Democratic Club
• Coordinator for United Way Charitable Campaign for the Cole County Circuit Court for eight years
• ADA (American Disabilities Act) Coordinator for Cole County Circuit Court

As a life-long Cole County resident, Marilue Hemmel grew up in Jefferson City, graduated from Helias High School, and has lived in Centertown for the past 21 years. She is married, with one daughter, one grandson and one granddaughter. She is a member of the St. Martins Catholic Church and is a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles-Ladies Auxiliary. Marilue is also active in Cole County Relay for Life fundraisers and Breast Cancer Awareness events.
