Kyle Yarber often introduces himself as being a third generation Missouri teacher, descended of five generations of Missouri farmers, nephew to three combat veterans, and great grandson to a preacher. Kyle split his childhood between suburban St. Louis, where his father was a principal and his mother a reading teacher, and the family farm in southern Missouri.
Kyle's political awareness as a boy was widened after a chance meeting with George McGovern at the Truman Library. As a teenager, he first involvement in politics was going door to door passing out flyers for Mel Carnahan's first run for governor.
Kyle graduated from Missouri State University in 1989. He became certified in seven different subject areas (included general science, social science, and business) and has taught at rural, suburban, and inner-city schools. He completed a Masters in social science in 2011 and a Masters in American history in 2012.
Kyle has been named the first historical director of the Kansas City Auto Museum, which is planned to open in 2013.
Kyle and his wife Molly live in Gladstone, where Kyle also serves on the Planning Commission. They welcomed Sadie, their first child, earlier this year.
