A new Jersey Mike's Subs restaurant is planned to open in Jefferson City later this year.
Local franchise co-owner Jackie Floyd intends to open the fast-casual sub sandwich restaurant on Missouri Boulevard by the end of July.
"We heard a lot about the Jersey Mike's brand — how much it's growing, how great the product is," Floyd said.
Floyd's franchise ownership group also operates Smoothie King at 2208 Missouri Blvd., which opened in late 2016.
Jersey Mike's serves fresh-sliced, fresh-grilled sub sandwiches, both hot and cold, on freshly baked bread.
"One of the signatures is the Philly Cheese Steak sandwich that they're really well known for," Floyd said.
It's also known for its signature sauce, an olive oil blend with red wine vinegar and spices.
Jersey Mike's also offers catering.
The original Mike's Subs opened in 1956 in Point Pleasant, New Jersey. Peter Cancro bought the business in 1975 and began franchising it as Jersey Mike's in 1987.
Jersey Mike's has more than 2,000 locations open and under development across the United States, including two in Columbia.
The new Jefferson City restaurant will be located in the Boulevard Centre Plaza at 2111 Missouri Blvd. that also houses Top Nails, Boost Mobile, CenturyLink, MetroPCS, Aqueous Vapor and Welcome Smokers.
Floyd said the restaurant will employ about 25 people.
