BizBeat: Old VFW under new owners

The former home of a Jefferson City Veterans of Foreign Wars branch is being turned into office space.

In April 2014, VFW Post 35 in St. Martins merged with VFW Post 1003 at 217 E. Capitol Ave. The combined post moved out of the building in January 2016 and into a larger space in St. Martins.

Shawn Schulte serves as vice president of Curtis-Manes-Schulte, which is the general contractor renovating the building. Schulte said he could not say much about the project because negotiations with prospective tenants are still ongoing. He said he could confirm the space will be used for office space.

Fat Radish LLC, a Jefferson City real estate management business, took ownership of the building in 2016, according to tax records filed with the Cole County Collector's Office.

Capitol Avenue Investments, a Jefferson City-based real estate holding company, is listed as the building's current owner, according to tax records filed with the collector's office. Schulte is also the registered agent for Capitol Avenue Investments, according to documents filed with Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft.
