BizBeat: Modern Litho acquires KC printer

Jefferson City-based commercial printer Modern Litho acquired Kansas City printer James Printing on Monday.

Modern Litho operates printing facilities in St. Louis and in Jefferson City near the industrial park at 6009 Stertzer Road. Modern Litho's Brown Printing division also works out of an office at 411 Madison St. The company prints magazines and catalogs for companies around the Midwest.

Modern Litho said in a news release that the acquisition continues a growth plan laid out by the company in 2013 when it bought St. Louis printer Midtown printing. Buying James Printing allows Modern Litho to expand further into other Midwestern markets, company officials said.

"A Kansas City location has been a target for expansion for us for many years," Modern Litho President Darrell Moore said in the news release. "We will enhance the client experience with further investments in the latest print technologies."

James Printing President Evan James said in the release that he sought a partner that could expand his business further.

"James Printing will continue to grow and thrive under the new ownership," James said. "Our clients and employees will benefit from the backing and investment Modern Litho brings to the table."
