Payless ShoeSource's last Jefferson City store will close in February, a company spokeswoman confirmed.

Lauren Jeffords, Payless director of communications, said in an email the store will close Feb. 15. Jeffords declined to comment further.

The Missouri Boulevard store will close about two years after Payless' Capital Mall store closed in February 2017.

Payless has about 3,500 stores in 40 countries, according to a news release. In April 2017, Payless filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and shed $435 million in debt. About two months later, the discount shoe retailer closed about 800 of the more than 4,000 Payless stores that existed at the time, according to CNN Money.
