BizBeat: Capital Candy closed

After more than five years in business, Capital Candy closed March 6 at Capital Mall.

Opened in 2012 by local entrepreneurs David Robinson and Terry Crouch, the store replaced the mall's previous candy store, Mr. Bulky.

Capital Mall General Manager Adam Addison told the News Tribune that Robinson closed Capital Candy for unknown reasons.

"We didn't get much of an explanation," Addison said.

Capital Candy offered a wide selection of candy and other goodies. A news release from November 2012 said Robinson and Crouch envisioned the store as a modern candy store by offering free Wi-Fi and a selection of coffee, fudge, truffles and gourmet tea.

Attempts to reach Robinson were unsuccessful.

Capital Candy was located in the mall's C wing near Joann Fabrics and Crafts.

Addison has previously said new signage and improvements to the mall are helping attract new tenants. Retail chains are looking to locate in the vacant Sears store, he told the News Tribune last week. Addison also said the mall may be ready to announce other new stores in the coming weeks.
