Eldon business expanding operation

The new owners of an Eldon dock-building business hope to add 22 employees over the next year.

A pair of brothers who own separate fabricating shops recently bought Dock Works on the north shore of the Lake of the Ozarks.

Micahel Hudson, who owns Heartland Fabrication & Machine in Raytown, said the shop was performing well before he and his brother, Todd Hudson, bought its assets from three previous owners. They see an opportunity to grow at the Lake of the Ozarks by leveraging their skills in construction to grow the business.

“I’ve always wanted a presence at the lake because there’s so much with many of the things we’re doing in manufacturing,” Hudson said.

Dock Works currently employs 19 people in Eldon. It constructs and designs commercial, residential and custom docks at a shop at 18 Penrose Drive. Right now, all docks are fabricated at that shop then galvanized in Glasgow.

Michael Hudson also owns a construction business, and Todd Hudson owns Heritage Fabrication. Michael said they hope to grow the business quickly, possibly adding up to 22 jobs in the next year as they try to expand the number of docks the business makes and release new products.

“It’s not going to be within the next six months,” Hudson said. “We’re hoping to move more and more product, through.”
