BizBeat: Cookie closing - for now

The Great American Cookie Company's Capital Mall location will be closed for at least 60 days as it changes locations because of a new sporting goods store at the Jefferson City mall.

Capital Mall General Manager Jamie Reed said the Cookie Company franchise will be closed for about 60 days as it relocates because of a large Dunham's Sporting Goods store that needs the space the restaurant formerly occupied. When the restaurant reopens, it will be a co-branded Great American Cookie Company and Slab Creamery; which is an ice cream shop similar to Cold Stone Creamery.

Norcross, Georgia-based Global Franchise Group, owns both restaurants, so the local franchise owner chose to open the co-branded restaurant, Reed said. The store will move from a location behind Fuji Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi Bar in the mall's south wing to a location near H&R Block in the mall's east wing. About $45,000 in upgrades were made at the location, according to building permits filed with the city. Jefferson City contractor Stark Construction Services is the main contractor, according to the permits.
