A planned Jefferson City store will give homeowners lots of new options to furnish, decorate and accessorize their dwellings.
HomeGoods, an American discount home furnishing chain, plans to move into the former Barnes & Noble space at 3535 Missouri Blvd. That location will put it near T.J. Maxx, one of its sister companies.
Jefferson City's Department of Planning & Protective Services approved a building permit for HomeGoods on Monday. The permit allows the company to make $10,000 in alterations to the building.
It's not known when the store will open. Ciara Benko, a company spokesman, could not be reached for comment Friday.
The chain has grown to operate hundreds of retail stores across the United States. It specializes in brand furniture, linens, cooking products, art and other home accessories. It is owned by TJX Companies, which also owns T.J. Maxx, Sierra Trading Post and Marshalls.
The company's website says the stores are "where savvy shoppers of every style discover an ever-changing election of exciting top brands and home fashions from around the world, at prices generally 20 to 60 percent below department and specialty store regular prices."
The chain claims to travel around the world to search for one-of-a-kind, handcrafted merchandise, and receives new shipments in its stores weekly.
